INDIVIDUAL PROTECTIVE MEASURES & HOSTAGE SURVIVAL
The objective of the block of instruction is to give the student an in depth understanding of Individual Protective Measures (IPM) as it applies to the full spectrum of military operations ranging from deployments for training (DFT), Foreign Internal Defense (FID) to full wartime operational deployments. Students will learn where to look to find the information needed to develop Threat Assessments (TA) for their area of operation (AOR). Students will also learn to utilize a number of individual skills ranging from route selection, travel considerations, counter surveillance techniques, vehicle searches and hostage survival. These individual skills will directly tie into the unit’s overall force protection plan. The instructors for this block of instruction have over twenty years of combined experience conducting real world small unit deployments and operations which required the use of Individual Protective Measures (IPM) during the conduct of numerous world wide operations.
Individual Protective Measures (IPM) 2 hour lecture – 18 hours of PE. At the end of this block of instruction, the student will have an understanding of basic individual protective measures and how to best implement them to include:
- Assets to obtain information on your AOR
- Objectives of IPM
- Determine the threat
- Apply IPM to minimize threat
- Advantages of being unpredictable
- Considerations in individual travel
- IPM in the terrorist environment
- Vehicle inspection and search
- Terrorist Surveillance techniques and friendly countermeasures
- Hostage survival

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Security and law enforcement professionals, military personnel or any other professions who are responsible for establishing security requirements for antiterrorism and force protection, crime prevention, and/or designing facilities to protect personnel and assets from terrorist and other criminals.
COURSE AVAILABILITY
The course is offered for any National Guard, Army Reserve, or other Unit. In addition, any Government agency or authorized Government contractor can arrange for and sponsor a workshop to be held at their location. Contact the Government Training Institute, Inc for registrations or mobile training. Courses designed specific for NGO's should contact GTI directly. Courses for military units can be customized to directly fit METL.
