IMMEDIATE ACTION TEAMS - THE ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE
The Immediate Action Teams - The Active Shooter course is designed for the patrol officer and takes the student through the change in police action in an active shooter situation. Some of the latest intelligence on active shooter scenes will be debriefed to provide insight into possible incident developments, pre-incident indicators, and other lessons learned.
Next, the officers will define priorities of life, breakdown the acceptable response, and immediately turn to tactics, the bodies sympathetic nervous system, and the fundamentals of marksmanship. Officers will also learn techniques designed to gain the advantage with an understanding of tactical angles, the use of cover and concealment, communication, and team formations and movement.
Before entering into LIVE FIRE SHOOT HOUSES and Force-on-Force scenarios, officers will be given a familiarization into the current theories of Hostage Rescue and Team member recovery operations. Depending on timing and how quickly the class progresses, a full scale active shooter scenario and debrief will occur on DAY 3. Attending officers should plan to leave no earlier than 1700 Hours on the course's final day.
GTI’s Immediate Action Teams course is a tremendous amount of information, and students will be given evening assignments to maximize time and minimize the number of days away from the agency. Developed for the patrol officer, each student should come prepared for an active course and shooting range time. Each officer should have their duty belt and holster, sidearm, rifle (if carried), 350 rounds of sidearm ammunition, eye and ear protection, and bdu's for each day of the course. GTI will be providing low energy rounds and full conversion kits for the student rifles and sidearm. Man marking cartridges will also be provided during the scenarios and force on force training. All other equipment will be provided by the institute. Those officers who bring their sidearm and/or rifles will be using their weapons for the duration of the course.
